HIV prevention among patient guardians - How safe are the guardains of HIV patients

As we try to prevent spread of HIV in hospital settings, there is one area which being overlooked, the guardian taking care of the AIDS patient. How safe is the guardian?

When the patient is in inpatient setting, the hospital environment allows the guardians taking care of the patient to follow some infection prevention practices. While in the ward the patient uses surgical gloves to take care of the HIV infected patient. Can you imagine  how a guardian of an HIV infected patient handle waste of the infected patient i.e. nappies? Its likely that these wastes are handled without any protective wear i.e. gloves.
